What is the Root Chakra

A chakra refers to an energy wheel that sits in your body. This is how your energy interacts with the energy of others – through the chakras. This is why you are able to sense when someone’s energy is “off” and when someone’s energy is “on”.

The Root Chakra is located at the base of your spine. To be exact it sits within the first three vertebrae of your Spine. The Root Chakra is the gateway to Mother Nature and the Feminine energy.

Why is the Root Chakra so important

The Root Chakra is your life force energy. This life force energy starts at conception and while you are still being formed in the womb.

The resonance around the Root Chakra has everything to do with – Do I belong here? Do I feel safe here? This is a primal instinctual question, which then determines your flight, fright or freeze mode.

The resonance of the Root Chakra also determines your trust vs mistrust with the world and the people in it. Why? Well it goes back to your childhood and infancy. Where your parents consistently there providing for you? If yes, this would allow you to feel a sense of safety and security in the world. If not, this would leave you feeling, unsafe, unloved and abandoned. If we had a chaotic childhood or absent parents this leads to a lack of trust and safety in the world.

Root Chakra: stability, security & basic needs

The reality is many of us experienced turbulent childhoods, which left us feeling insecure and abandoned. Coming back to healing these wounds in our later years, how do you start to gain stability in your life? The answer is through forming connections with yourself mentally, emotionally, physically and spirituality.

Imbalanced Root Chakra

You know your Root Chakra is out of balance when you are feeling restless and experience lack of energy due to anxiety, worry, panic depression, frustration, resentment, anger, rage and having a general sense of no interest in the world.

Balanced Root Chakra

A balanced Root Chakra helps you increase your sense of belonging, makes you feel secure with your actions and choices and most of all allows you to hold a deep sense of self-worth.

Mentally a balanced Root Chakra, helps you with improved concentration, persistence, clear thinking and the ability to set goals and prioritize.

Emotionally, a balanced Root Chakra helps with passion, love, excitement and determination.

When the Root Chakra is blocked, your higher chakras cannot be healed or flow in a healthy state.

Ways to Heal your Root Chakra

  • Connect with your home space and environment: by taking the time to connect in your home space and connecting with your tribe.
  • Connect with nature: by earthing and grounding yourself.
  • Connect with yourself: by working on your self-esteem, self-confidence and self-reliance.
  • Connect with your soul & spirit: by taking quiet time for yourself, do breathing exercises, do some yoga, practice meditation, chant mantras, dance and connect with your feminine energy, and connecting with Source Energy.

Most importantly set aside quality time for yourself. Read a book, write, sing, dance, run, sail, mediate, practice yoga, do art, make love! Do whatever it takes to connect with your inner self again!

By taking the time to heal your Root Chakra you will heal your abandonment wounds and lack of self-love.
